Off to a Wedding

We are headed off for NY this morning. MamaC said she did not know if we would get any boxing done, but maybe some site seeing and pictures! Oh, and did I tell you I get to go to a wedding. I'm all shined up and ready. Woohoo!!!

We travelled to WV today. Stopped at the New River Gorge and got some pic. We travel on to NY tomorow. The trip is about twice as long as it would have been if we had gone straight there from MamaC's home.

Making new friends in North Carolina.

My Cousin Turtle arrived safe and sound.
She waited patiently in my mailbox until I left for work about 10:30pm. She was beginning to think she would be spending the night out there. I was thrilled to find her and took her on to work with me.
This morning she met the rest of the family — Big Mac, Caz, and Coco-Pugs the visiting BB who will be moving on to his next host at the Aug 18 Gathering in Raleigh, NC. Right now they are huddled together, doing exchanges, chatting, and making s'mores. Pugs is so glad to have someone else to share his love of s'mores with.
There is no telling what those two will get into today while I'm asleep. Kind of scary.

On Her Way Again

My Cousin Turtle has packed her bags and is off on her second mission, this time to MamaC92593 in North Carolina. The journey across the pond has taken longer recently. It seems to be since the car bomb in Glasgow airport. Obviously the heightened security must be affecting the checking of parcels, but for MCT it is just a question of stocking up on enough rations to last her. Now that she was a member of the Grateful Letterboxers Group she would just be grateful that they spent the time making sure everyone was safe.

North Carolina....Mmmm.....MCT had a feeling that the folks in NC tended to get up to a few tricks and general silliness there. She would have to keep her wits about her and not fall for anything too obvious, but oh it was going to be fun to join in with all the merriment she heard about on the AQ North Carolina Board.

The Return of MCT

MCT has arrived home from Massacheussettes with the most wonderful tales to tell. She has exchanged with Old Hounder, Siamese, The Merry Pranksters and Sapphireberry. Her logbook is a riot of colour, amongst which is a veritable march of Penguins!

She is very grateful to have made so many friends who have helped her find her way around and gave her clues for the local letterboxes. She has joined a letterboxing group called the Grateful Letterboxers. MCT hasn't stopped singing to herself ever since she got home.

Another Boxing Buddy Corrupted!

Oh the horror of it, why is it always my Boxing Buddies that develop bad habits when I am not looking. I have had a report from Dale End Farm that MCT has found one of those.... yes you know.... the boxes without any stamps but lots of bits and pieces. Fortunately their dog, Winnie has a very fine sense of right and wrong and immediately picked MCT up and removed her far from temptation. I just hope Winnie can remember where MCT is when it is time to come home :-)

Plunging straight into Letterboxing - American style

My Cousin Turtle has arrived safely and has immediately been plunged into letterboxing American style. She has already met and done exchanges with Oldhounder, Siamese and The Merry Pranksters. It was very exciting to do exchanges as this is something not done in England, she really felt that she was abroad at last. Dale End Farm also took Turtle on a letterboxing expedition with them which she really enjoyed, and she is starting to learn the names of the American types of tree which are used in the clues.

Setting Off

My Cousin Turtle was very excited and apprehensive today as she was about to embark on the first of her journeys. She is going to travel all the way to Massachusetts. The last few days she had been busy studying the atlas, finding out exactly where Massachusetts is in that enormous country, The United States of America. The State did not seem too large, compared to some of the others. Thankfully it had a coast line, so she would be able to swim all the way there from England. Those famous Goggle Map directions, that had recently been passing around AQ, didn't seem so hilarious now that they were happening for real!

Rather reassuring was the feeling that she knew something about her host, and would be able to recognise her. Dale End Farm had been interviewed in that most famous Letterboxing Movie - Fright Night 2 (well, famous movie to anyone in the Letterboxing World, but maybe just a mere podcast to the rest of the world). Fright Night 2 had been replayed several times during the weekend in order to study everything closely.

Finally the moment arrived. Strapping on her backpack which contained her signature stamp, and tucking her logbook into the Royal Mail padded envelope to travel ahead of her, she set off to start her long swim to the good 'ol US of A :-)

Beginnings

I (The Yorkshire Tortoise) would love to find some of the wonderful letterboxes in other parts of the world. As tortoises are unable to swim I have asked my cousin ~ Turtle ~ to become a Boxing Buddy and find them in my stead. I am often mistaken for a turtle (yes, you know who you are!), and hopefully everyone should now be able to see the difference.

My Cousin Turtle has her own little pack to carry her signature stamp, and a crisp new logbook in which she hopes to stamp some finds and record her travels.
